Research Fields

BIOCATALYSIS AND BIOCHEMICAL PROCESSES

In this line, we study the use of the catalytic potential of microorganisms and enzymes, the production of enzymes and primary and secondary metabolites through fermentative processes, and the valorization of derivatives or residues from agro-industry for the production of biofuels, food and pharmaceutical stabilizers, acids, cyclodextrins, among others.

CATALYSIS & KINETICS AND REACTORS

The research studies involve the preparation, modification and physicochemical characterization of catalytic systems and adsorbent materials and their application in catalytic and adsorption processes. It is also studied the kinetics and mechanism of chemical homogeneous and heterogeneous reactions, as well as the modeling and optimization of different types of reactors.

PHASE EQUILIBRIUM AND THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES

The studies in this lines focus on experimental measurements of phase equilibrium, thermodynamic properties, and thermodynamic modeling.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT, CONTROL, AND PRESERVATION

Treatment and reuse of water, including wastewater are studied in this line. Also processes for obtaining drinking water are investigated and developed. Environmental monitoring and management are investigated.

PROCESS MODELLING, CONTROL, AND AUTOMATION

This line deal with the application of computational techniques and development of methodologies for process modeling, simulation, identification, control, instrumentation, and automation.

SEPARATION PROCESSES AND PARTICULATE SYSTEMS

The focus of this line is on integrated systems involving fluids and particles, present in unit operations of the chemical industry. Also fluid separation and separation of particles present in liquid and gaseous streams are investigated.

PROCESS SYNTHESIS AND OPTIMIZATION

In this line, aspects of process design are analyzed with regard to the economic-financial study, as well as energy (heat and work) and mass integration. To this end, modeling, synthesis and optimization techniques are developed and employed.
