Doctoral Program

The Doctoral Program can last up to 48 months (minimal 2 years). 

The student must complete a total of 24 credits in courses, being 15 credits in mandatory and 9 credits in elective courses. A maximum of 11 credits of mandatory courses previously obtained can be used/validated to obtain part of the required credits.

Candidates whose mother tongue is not Portuguese must take a proficiency exam in Portuguese and also in English, if the previous education is not in English.

The student must start the doctoral program with a Thesis Project and advisor/supervisor already defined. Prior to enroll the program the student must choose his/her supervisor from the faculty advisor program members and prepare, with the supervisor/advisor, the Thesis Project compatible with the PEQ Research Lines.

The degree of Doctor in Chemical Engineering will be awarded to the regular student of the program who fully meets, within 48 months, the following requirements:

  • Complete at least 24 credits in subjects - courses;
  • Be approved in the Qualification Exam;
  • Pass the Proficiency Exam - Portuguese and English;
  • Be approved in the Thesis Defense;
  • Publish at least one article of the Thesis in Congress and another in a specialized journal ;
  • Submit an article to be published in a specialized journal.
